Learning to listen to those older and wiser than myself

‘Oh I’ve had my moments and if I had to do it all over again, I’d have more of them. In fact, I’d try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day’ – Nadine Stair on her 85th birthday

There is nothing like the wisdom and advice of an older person. They have lived life to the full, they have learned from mistakes made. They have experienced many ups and downs, sorrow and joy. They have journeyed through sweeping changes and transition. They have put their trust in lasting values, a deep faith and strong foundations. As a society, we are the biggest losers if we don’t listen to their many gems of insight and advice, but in the frantic pace of modern life they are often forgotten. Is there an older person living near me ? Can I make contact, offer help or stop for a chat? Better again, can I make time to listen to all of their wisdom ?
