New Year Reflection

‘The flower does not bear the root. The root bears the flower and the flower is merely the evidence of the vitality of the root’ – Woodview Wilson

6

We are about to say goodbye to the year just gone. There are parts of the year just gone, that we are glad to leave behind. It may have been a personal tragedy, bereavement, an illness, family troubles, mistakes made and much more.
For some the new year just cannot come soon enough. But there are alsoparts of this year that were special, influential and memorable. These moments are worth remembering and holding onto.
Like the roots of a plant or tree, they are vitally important. They can give us direction and sustinance as we begin a new year. We say thanks for God’s gentle presence in our lives throughout the year just gone. This includes both what was good and not so good.
God’s continued blessings on you as we begin a new year

Used Stamps for Charity:  The ISPCC receives less than 10% government funding, yet we are the only organisation in Ireland providing a 24 hour listening support service for children and young people.   You can help us support our services by turning your used stamps into money. All you need do is to put your used stamps into an envelope and send to:  ISPCC,  29 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2.   There’s no need to lift them off the envelope, but if you have time to trim them leave a 1cm margin all around.   Even a little stamp can make a big difference.

The Epiphany of Our Lord is the Christian feast observed on Jan. 6, 2017.  The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means “to shine upon,” “to manifest,” or “to make known.” Thus, the feast of the Epiphany celebrates the many ways that Christ has made Himself known to the world, mainly the three events that manifested the mission and divinity of Christ:  the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9-11), and the miracle at Cana (John 2:1-11). The visit of the Magi is emphasized on Epiphany Day, and Christ’s baptism is celebrated the first Sunday that follows.

Baptism:  We welcome into the Christian Community Sophie Rose Ryan, London.

May GOD be with you through New Year

and fill your life with COMFORT, LOVE and CHEER.

May this day and the days ahead, hold many BLESSINGS

for you and yours.

Christmas Message 2016
Christmas is a time when we gather with family and friends. Family is about connection; we are connected in varying ways to our immediate and wider families. Some of our family members are in far flung corners of the globe; although far away they are close to our hearts. Christmas is also a time when we recall the story of God’s close connection with us, his Son born of Mary in Bethlehem and grew up in a family. The gospel of midnight Mass has this reassuring passage “Do not be afraid, listen I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord”. The connection between us and God is very close, he shared our human life and our family life; he wants each one of us to share his life now and in eternity. Christmas reassures us that God is close to all and especially those who are in need of hope. The news of Jesus is good news; it is news that brings joy and peace to all. We had the good news a few weeks ago that Pope Francis hopes to attend the World Meeting of Families in August 2018. It is an event that highlights the importance of family life. I wish you and your family and your friends a Christmas that is joyful and peaceful because of the birth of Jesus, God among us. Francis Duffy, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.

Safeguarding Message from Bishop Francis, 2016: Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas; it has a special atmosphere of expectation and of looking forward to the events of Bethlehem. During this season many children will participate in nativity plays, carol services and liturgies. I hope they have a very happy and joyful time with their families and friends.
I thank our Parish Safeguarding Representatives and our Priests for their very important work in ensuring the safety of children and vulnerable adults in our Church related activities. Their vigilance gives reassurance to all. I encourage anyone with concerns regarding the safety of children or anyone who suffered in the past to contact our Designated Persons: Sean Leydon (087-7431649) or Róisín O’Doherty (087-3327587).
