Mission Month of October

Today is Mission Sunday.  It is the one day when we are specifically asked to dig into our hearts and minds and assist our Church’s universal mission.   Our theme for this years’ Mission Sunday is ‘Every Christian is a Missionary’.  We all have the privilege of sharing God’s love and words with those who have not yet heard Him.

Pope Francis is an enthusiastic ‘promoter’ of this theme and is seeking to lead all of us in a joyful expression of our individual and unique missionary charism.    In his message for Mission Sunday the Pope says “As they travel through the streets of the world, the disciples of Jesus need to have a love without limits, the same measure of love that our Lord has for all people. We proclaim the most beautiful and greatest gifts that he has given us: his life and his love”.    The Irish missionary disciples need our spiritual and financial help today. We have some 1,200 men and women working in all corners of the world, each playing his or her part on the missionary journey.    Your financial help today is crucial to their work.  We can’t do it without you. Large or small, it makes a huge difference and we thank you sincerely for your help.    www.wmi.ie

Mission Month of October

Next Sunday is Mission Sunday, the annual worldwide Catholic celebration of mission in its fullest sense.   Pope Francis describes mission “As a passion for Jesus and a passion for his people”.   Our financial and spiritual help enables missionaries to breathe faith, hope and charity into the lives of people who need it most.  Sharing the message and sharing financially with those in developing countries is our Christian duty. Our prayers and financial offerings on Mission Sunday go towards supporting missionaries and their mission projects where the Church is new, young or poor.

A special collection will be taken up next Sunday in aid of our brothers and sisters currently on mission, allowing them to continue their work.     www.wmi.ie

Mission Month of October

Little children of Ireland have a lovely day to look forward to this week. The National day of Prayer for Children takes place this coming Friday, the 14th October.  Organised by the Society for Missionary Children, the occasion gives children a good opportunity to think of those children who are less fortunate, to pray for those less fortunate and to share with those less fortunate.  Children love to know that they are important members of a global circle of praying, sharing and caring, in this, the Mission Month of October. They have generous hearts, missionary hearts, and so are open to the idea of including other little children in their thoughts.  The National Day of Prayer is now in its ninth year.   For further information on the Society of Missionary Children or to make a donation please visit www.wmi.ie

The best feeling of HAPPINESS is when you’re happy because you’ve made somebody else happy.

This vital funding is returned to the people of Offaly through supports of many kinds to individuals with intellectual disability and their families.

Acknowledgement: On the 1st Anniversary of Sean Regan, his wife Josephine, sons Brian & James and extended family would like to express sincere gratitude to all who sympathised with the family on our sad loss. Thanks to our friends and neighbours from Banagher for their support and kindness. To all who sent Mass cards, letters and phone calls, all who attended Sean’s removal, Mass and burial. It is not possible to thank everyone individually. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.
The Hospice Coffee Morning was a resounding success in the Banagher/Cloghan area. A sum of €1,470 was raised by Helen and Phillip Flannery and Carmel and Padraic Finneran, which was presented during the week to Offaly Hospice Foundation. A further €15,000, the fruits of local fundraising efforts and donations, including proceeds of Puca Lane C.D., were also handed over to Mary Murphy, administrator of Offaly Hospice. All these funds will be used to support Homecare and Palliative Care Teams of Offaly Hospice. The local
Hospice Committee gratefully acknowledges the exceptional generosity of all concerned.

Mission Month of October

We are once again celebrating the Mission Month of October.  Mission Month gives us all the opportunity to reflect on our baptismal call to bring Christ to others, which is a privilege in itself.   The gift we have been given, we are asked to give. Our gift to the world is the joy of the Gospel and our Irish missionaries continue to bring the Good News to people throughout the world.   World Missions Ireland, the working title of the four Pontifical mission societies, organises the Mission Sunday collection in all Churches nationwide. Mission Sunday falls on the 23rd October. Our theme is ‘Every Christian is a Missionary’.  We can all do our part in an open, joyful and generous way.   For further information on WMI or to make a donation please visit www.wmi.ie
