Banagher Active Retirement Club:  The next club meeting is on Tues. 29th March in Crank House at 2 p.m.  Please note change of venue!!!  Lunch at 12.30 p.m. sharp.

Birr Library is hosting a lecture by Dr. Philip McConway on Wed. 30th March at 7 p.m.  The topic of the lecture is “Offaly Republican Roll of Honour – Exploring IRA Fatalities from 1918-37”.  Booking is essential.  Please book a space by calling 9124950.

The Darkness into Light 5km Walk/Run will take place in Banagher this year on Sat. 7th May in aid of Pieta House, the centre for the preventions of suicide and self-harm.   The event will begin at 4.15 a.m. from Banagher College and participants will cross the line as dawn is breaking.  You can register online now or alternatively at Super Valu, Banagher on Holy Thursday from 4 – 6 or Easter Sat. from 10-6 to avail of the early bird offer.  Please come out and lend your support to this uplifting and inspirational event.

St Rynaghs Hurling and Camogie Club Fundraising Concert     St Rynaghs Hurling and Camogie Clubs will hold a fundraising concert at Banagher College, Colaiste Na Sionna on Friday 1st April with performances from Dave Lalor, Trudie Lalor and Mary Byrne from X Factor. Craft Fair    A Craft Fair will take place on Saturday 26th March from 10.30am to 6pm at Supervalu, Banagher Town Centre and will continue to take place on the last saturday of each month

Census Night is 24th April: Census enumerators will be calling to all dwellings in the area in the coming weeks.

Offaly SPCA – Church Gate Collection amounted to €330.  Our sincere thanks to all the parishioners who supported us and also thanks to the collectors.

Archbishop Eamon Martin will lead a Christian solidarity pilgrimage to the Holy Land from September 9-17, 2016, on a direct flight from Dublin. It will be an opportunity to visit holy sites and walk in the footsteps of Jesus in Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee and Jerusalem. €1,495 per person sharing. Afternoon of Prayer and Meditation in preparation for Holy Week in the Wheery Room, Ferbane led by Br. Brian Johnson on Saturday 19th  March  from 2.30 – 4 p.m.

Banagher Craft Group:  There is an open house policy for the last three weeks of the Banagher Craft Group – Crank House programme.  All welcome.  On Tuesdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m..  No experience required just a willing to learn

Offaly 100 – Together We RememberSunday 20th March  2016:  We invite you, your family and your neighbours, your friends and your colleagues to remember reflect and to celebrate 100 years of our nation in Offaly.   Ceremony of Commemoration – Assemble 5.45 p.m. for 6 p.m Courthouse, Tullamore   Together we remember their contribution by the raising of the Irish Flag, laying a wreath and the reading of the Proclamation. A lone piper will lead us in a candlelit walk to Colmcille St, to the scene where on March 20th 1916 an incident led to Padraig Pearse saying “A great deed was done last night in Tullamore.” The unveiling of a new flagstone to mark this location will take place, before the piper leads us onto the Church of the Assumption. Centenary Concert – 7.30 p.m.  Together we will reflect with music and spoken word in a concert headlined by Mundy & Donal Lunny, with Simon Casey incl. over 150 musicians who will raise the roof with some iconic pieces of Irish music.   This is a FREE EVENT – all are welcome

Banagher St. Patrick’s Day Parade:  The Committee for the Banagher St. Patrick’s Day Parade would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to their Church gate collection last weekend. Your generosity raised a total of €817.50. This will go a long way in helping with the running expenses of the parade.

With only a week to go to the Parade we would like to ask as many premises and business on the Main Street to hang up some decorations if possible and provide some colour on the town for the weekend. Remember that the Parade kicks off at 3 p.m. on Sun. the 13th March

Banagher and District First Responders are holding their annual church gate collection next weekend 12/13 March.  This is one of our main fundraiser for the year so your support will be greatly appreciated.

The Tidy Towns group AGM will be held on Wed. 9th March at 7.30 p.m. in Crank House. New members, volunteers and ideas for the group’s activities are always welcome. Please show your support.

Offaly Hospice Annual Public Meeting takes place on Mon. 14th March in the Tullamore Court Hotel at 8 p.m. everyone welcome. We are appealing to anyone with an interest in hospice services to show your support by attending this public meeting.
