Chiropody Clinic will be attending Banagher Health Centre on Fri. 30th May from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for senior citizens general and diabetic foot care.

Floatourboat seeks to buy an adaptable Skull (small rowing boat) for Offaly Rowing Club (Offaly RC). One of the beneficiaries will be student Joshua Cannon. The target is €6,000. 3 Charity Fundraising Cycles (30km, 60km & 120km) are taking place this Sun. 4th May  to purchase a much needed hydro therapy pool for St. Dympna’s. History of Banagher Bridge 1841-1843  on Thurs. 8th May at 8 p.m. in Banagher College/Coláiste na Sionna.  A well-illustrated talk on the construction and opening of Banagher’s famous bridge.   The presentation will be made by Eoghan Broderick M.R.I.A.I., Kieran Keenaghan and James Scully.  Material related to this event is on display in local shop windows Hunts (Coakley’s), Post Office (Corrigan’s) and Noel Hayes (formerly).   All welcome.

The First National Conference on “The Irish Workhouse, Past & Present” will be held in Portumna, Co. Galway on Sat. 17th & Sun. 18th May. 163 workhouses operated in Ireland from the 1840s to the 1920s. The workhouse or poorhouse has been described as “the most feared and hated institution ever established in Ireland.”  Every area had a workhouse. Used Stamps for the Missions:  Your used postage stamps can help the missions in Africa. Just leave a half-inch margin around each stamp and send them to St. Patrick’s, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow. There, retired missionaries sort the stamps and prepare them for sale to stamp collectors.
