Feast of Corpus Christi:Next Sunday is the Feast of Corpus Christi.  After the 11.30 a.m. Mass the Annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place to the National School for the blessing and Benediction.

The Annual May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continues throughout the month of May.

National Vigil for Life:  A vigil will take place on June 8th in Dublin to call on the Government to defend both the life of the mother and the unborn child.  Pope Francis has called all Christians to protect and defend the sanctity of all life at all stages.  This time we are presented with the opportunity to clearly say that the intentional taking of life is always wrong.   This is a true human rights issue on which we are called to make our views heard.  We will be running a bus on the day.  If you can travel to this event please give your name to Fr. Stitching Women’s Lives  at Belmont MIll & Artist Studios. A free exhibition of hand embroidered wall hangings by women in Northern India. These beautifully stitched ‘tapestries’ show the life of the women and their community. Everyone is welcome.1- 5 p.m. Wed. – Sun.  ends 9th June.

Coffee/Tea Morning in Aid of Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service next Thur. 30th of May from 11a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at Anne Clarke, Cloghanbeg Lusmagh. All monies raised go towards providing essential services for women and families affected by domestic violence and abuse in county Offaly. One in five women is affected by abuse at some time on their life time. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Pastoral Council:  Meeting of Banagher and Cloghan Pastoral Councils will take place next Thurs. at 8 p.m. in Cloghan Hall.  The purpose of the meeting is to start planning for the upcoming Parish Mission in Nov.

Bereavement Support meeting takes place this Tue. At 8 p.m. in The Presbytery.  The hope is to establish a Bereavement Support Group.  All interested are very welcome to attend.

Pray for Life:  An afternoon of prayer for the protection of life will take place this Sun. from 2 p.m. in Emmanuel House of Prayer.  This Prayer Day is dedicated to the protection of mother and child.

First Holy Communion:  This weekend we welcome to Mass in a special way the following member of our Church who will receive Holy Communion for the first time.  At the vigil Mass Thomas Kelly, Olga Janson and Jakob Gorski and at the 11.30 a.m. Mass on Sunday we welcome Harvey Dolan, Holly Boylan and Bryan Shea.  We pray for these children and their families.

Confirmation:  44 members of our Church will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Wed. in Cloghan.  We ask your prayers for these children.

Tidy Towns:   Car Boot Sale  – WE NEED TOWN AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT with our Car Boot Sale this Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in rear of SuperValu  car park.  Bring a car boot full of items.  Both Buyers and Sellers are welcome. We hope that this may be a regular event to help support the many projects that need to be undertaken in Banagher.

Anti- Litter Campaign We are inviting all the community including Publicans, Shop Owners, Residents in the town and from all housing estates to support a new Anti- Litter Campaign for Banagher. A Photo will be taken to launch this on next Thurs. 16th May in the Library Square at 7 p.m. everyone invited.

Banagher Ladies Club:  Final payment for trip to Blooms Festival on Sat. June 1st needs to be paid.  Itinerary for the trip will be circulated when numbers travelling are known. Final cost is €64.

Banagher active Retirement Club are hosting their Annual Fundraising Coffee Afternoon on Fri. 17th May from 2 to 4 p.m. in St. Rynagh’s College of Education.  This is in aid of the Uganda/Ireland fund for the open doors Orphanage and for a girl called Esther that Ann Flannery  Comerford has adopted in Uganda.   All monies raised go directly to this Project and to Esther’s well-being.   All Support greatly appreciated.

New Art Class starting on Tues. 14th May to 18th June for 6 weeks from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.  in St. Rynagh’s College ,Banagher.  Choose from two painting including one of Banagher Bridge.  Beginners are very welcome.  Cost €85(active retirement members €75) & all materials are included.  For more info. phone Tracey on 086-2245620.  Book early as places do fill quickly.

The Longboat Project:  If you are a man living in Offaly, East Galway or North Tipperary with a bit of time on your hands and would like to do something more positive and beneficial with it then perhaps this project is for you.  Dougal Mc Mahon, a Belmont-based boat builder with a background in Civil Engineering, will provide the expertise that will guide participants. It is planned that participants will meet up to work on the project two days each week at times that suit them. You won’t receive any additional payment for being part of this Men’s Shed Project but you will gain useful skills. Bereavment Group:  We are hoping to establish a Bereavement Support Group here in Banagher.  A number of people have expressed an interest in becoming involved.  A meeting will take place on Tues. 14th May at 8.00 p.m. in The Presbytery. If you wish to come along you will be very welcome.

St. Vincent de Paul:  A second meeting of the newly established S.V.D.P. Branch here in Banagher will take place on Thurs. 9th May at 8.00 p.m. in The Presbytery.  Anyone interested in helping are welcome.

The Annual May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continues throughout the month of May.

First Holy Communion:  We welcome to Mass today Ciaran Daly, Alex Flynn, Cormac Butler, Coda Clarke, Korbin Dolan, Niall Daly, Amy Andrews, Adam Shaw, Nathan McDermott, Paddy McGuckin, Ciaran McIntyre and Alan Atherton.  Each of these members of our Church will receive Holy Communion for the first time at the 11.30 a.m. Mass.  We pray for them and their families on this joyful day.  Other children will receive communion over the coming weeks.

Banagher Youth Theatre will perform the “Exam” by Andrew Hamilton this Sat. 4th & Sun. 5th May in St Rynagh’s Adult Education Centre at 8.30 p.m. This is Banagher Youth Theatre debut performance. Tickets on available on the night. Information contact Anne 0878223175.

St. Rynagh’s N.S. Camogie Team have reached the A Division Final for the first time ever.  Best of luck to the girls.  All support welcome and greatly appreciated. Match on Wed. 8th May in St. Brendan’s Park, Birr at 3.30 p.m.

Banagher Active Retirement Group meeting on Tues. 7th May. Guest Speaker: Ann Minnock, Garden and nursery plants & Flowers. New members welcome.

Tidy Towns:We want to thank everyone who have started their washing and painting of their premises on the town streetscape and also all the private houses who have started painting and cleaning outside front boundary walls and footpath frontages. We require volunteers badly (all ages) to help with a number of activities on Thursday evenings for the next few weeks. 7 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. meet in Library Square. Make a difference and come along.
Car Boot Sale on Sun. 12th May in Super Valu, Car Park 12 noon to 4.00 p.m.  Cars €10 for those who want to participate.
Thanks to all who participated in The Spring Clean Up.  We are very grateful for the wonderful attendance.

Best of luck to the Offaly Ladies Senior Football team who are in the League Final on this Sat.  4th of May at 5.00 p.m. in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick, especially to the Rynagh’s girls: Captain – Siobhan Flannery, Laura Devery, Elaine Sullivan, Emma Corcoran, Mairead Daly, Sinead Daly, Linda Sullivan and Ciara McCormack. St. Rynagh’s Camogie Club:  Congratulations to the Offaly Minor Camogie Team who won the All Ireland League Final last Sat. especially our two players Roisín Egan and Helen Dolan, who was captain.   Best Wishes to the Offaly Ladies Senior Football team who play, Roscommon in the All Ireland League Final this Sat.

Developing Good Bedtime Routines Workshop:  Triple P gives you tips & strategies to make family life less stressful with young children and a good understanding of positive parenting with plenty of ideas to make parenting easier.
