Eucharistic Adoration Regional Gathering  in Ferbane Church on Sun. 3rd March at 3.00 p.m. for those involved in Eucharistic Adoration. This is part of the new diocesan structure that wants to support adorers in there ministry. The event will involve a time of Adoration in the Church and a brief gathering afterwards to appoint representatives from parishes and this region to liaise with the diocesan committee. Paving Bricks & Paving Slabs Workshop:  As part of the Aontas Adult Learners’ Festival, Co. Offaly VEC will run a Paving Bricks and Paving Slabs Workshop on Tues. 26th Feb. in St. Rynagh’s College of Further Education, Banagher, from 10.00 a.m. -1.00 p.m.  This is a free workshop and open to all. The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association suggests that people might consider taking a short-term pledge to abstain from alcohol during Lent.  During this time they could pause to think about their own relationship with alcohol. They could offer their sacrifice for a friend or relative whom they love who has a problem with alcohol or with other drugs.

Banagher St Patrick’s Day Parade  – Sunday 17th March, 2013
This year the St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee have decided to link the Parade with festivities planned for the Gathering. As Part of the Parade, it is hoped to acknowledge any Expats who have returned to the area for St Patrick’s Day. The committee have asked any local families who have people returning, to please contact any member of the committee. Local residents and businesses are encouraged to pull out all the stops for St Patrick’s Day and decorate their homes and businesses to add to the occasion.

Social Dancing:  Strictly for fun Social Dance classes in Ballykilmurray Hall, beside Esker Hills Golf Course 10 mins from Durrow, Tullamore, every Thursday night 8 -10 p.m. Learn to Waltz, Quickstep, Jive and Foxtrot in a comfortable,relaxed setting.  A fun way to keep fit and meet new friends.  No partner needed and we welcome absolute beginners.  €8 admission Checklist…2 feet, bottle of water and a sense of humour.  Set Dancing Classes continue every Mon. night in Ballykilmurray Hall at 8 p.m. Contact 086 6758006.

The money comes directly to the parish and costs you nothing!  If you are a PAYE worker/earner and would like to help the parish please return outstanding forms to The Presbytery as soon as possible.

Tidy Towns meeting next Thursday at 8 p.m. in Crank House. All existing members including sub. groups set up before Christmas are requested to attend. New members are also welcome

Resignation of Pope Benedict:  We keep in our prayers at this time Pope Benedict who has taken the decision to resign.  We ask God to bless him and we pray for those who will choose for us the successor of St. Peter.

Church Restoration Update:  The stain glass window has been completed over the Sanctuary by Emerald Windows, Tullamore, during the week.  The painters have completed the body of the Church and are now working on the porches, the stencil company have been working for the last number of weeks on the designs and will be here for the next 2 to 3 weeks.  This coming week the sound system and lighting system will be installed.  The wood work is also progressing over the past number of weeks.  At this stage we are heading into the last 5 to 6 weeks of work in order to be ready for Easter Ceremonies.

Ash Wednesday & Lent:  Lent begins next Wed. 13th Feb.   These 40 days are an opportunity for each of us to reflect on our way of life, where God might be calling us to conversion.  We are reminded of the need to reflect on God’s wishes for us and how we have responded to it.  Ashes are placed on our forehead as a sign of our desire to repent and our intention to turn from sin and redirect our lives to God and His love for us.  Ashes will be distributed at Mass on Wed. 9.30 a.m. & 7.00 p.m. in the College of Further Education, Main Street.

Baptisms: We welcome into the Christian Community Dearbhaile Lyons, Harbour Road and Lily Mannion, Curraghavarna, who were baptised recently.
